FAQ'S
A great deal of thought goes into selecting a pet sitter since it is built on confidence and trust. Most client/sitter relationships develop a strong bond because you and your sitter will share the love and care for your pet.
What is in-home pet sitting?
A trained sitter comes to your home for scheduled visits and cares for your pets in their comfortable environment. These visits are customized to meet the needs and routines of your pets. Included in our pet sitting services are feedings, walks, brushing, TLC, cleaning up after pets inside and out, overall health checks and peace and comfort to your animals when we spend time with them. Sitters will also bring in the mail, newspaper, adjust your tv or radio, alternate lights and blinds and water plants. This gives your home a lived- in feel in order to deter burglars. In home pet care is set up to make your, and your pet's life easier and more relaxed.
Why should I use a pet sitter instead of boarding my pets?
Most pet owners have limited choices concerning care for their pets when they are away from home. They can turn to friends, neighbors or professional boarders-all of which are possible solutions, but not ideal for every pet. A new alternative presents the best choice of all, a professional pet care giver who comes into the home to care for your pet while you're away. Pet sitting allows you to get know who is taking care of your pets rather than leaving them to an unknown boarding staff. According to the American Humane Society, pets are happiest when they're at home surrounded by familiar sights, sounds and smells. Having a professional pet sitter is the next best thing to having you there.
What is the purpose of the free in-home consultation?
We provide an in-home consultation so that you have the opportunity to meet with your pet sitter and cover information in the new client packet. In order to begin service you will need to have the necessary forms completed (see reservations for downloads), two copies of your house keys, proof of rabies vaccination and partial payment.
Can I use my Aunt Em in Kansas as an emergency contact?
Your emergency contact should be a trusted relative, neighbor or friend who can make decisions on your behalf if the situation warrants it. Rest assured, every attempt will be made to contact you first but should a situation occur it is best to have local contacts.
I'm leaving in two days and don't have time for the initial consultation, will you take care of my pets?
I'm sorry but unless we have already met you and your pets we will not be able to care for them without a prior meeting. This is for the safety of the sitter and you. We may be available for last minute sits but it's always best to call well in advance to schedule a in-home consultation.
How are my keys handled?
We ask that you provide us with two keys at the initial client consultation. One key will remain with your sitter and the second will be maintained in a secure lock box. If you have electronic access to your home via garage doors, remote controls, etc. we will still need copies of your keys during your service period. Each key we secure will be marked with an identifying number and your pet's name. This is required to maintain the security of your property and the safety of your pets should an emergency arise. If you do not have two copies ready for us at the initial consultation we can make a copy for you for $5.
Do I have to leave a copy of my key on file with you?
We recommend that clients that use our service for daily walks leave a key on file with us for their regular visits. Leaving your key on file is a great option as we are then available for short notice visits. All it takes is a phone call or email to set up future visits. With a key on file we can also let you in should you ever get locked out. If you choose not to leave a key on file there is a small surcharge for the key drop off. We can also return your key by certified mail.
Is there a minimum number of visits?
We strongly recommend a minimum of two pet sit visits per day for adult dogs. Every pet is different and the quantity of visits depends on your pet's needs. Our private dog walks require a minimum of two days per week. We also suggest that they are on the same days and times in order to maintain a routine for your pet. Cats and birds require a minimum of 1 visit per day. Other small animals such as hamsters, guinea pigs or exotics require a minimum of every other day. Currently we do not provide service for snakes.
Will you let the cat out in the morning and let him in for the evening?
We understand your cat is used to enjoying the outdoors but we require them to remain indoors while we watch them. Your pet's safety is our number one priority.
What if there is an emergency with one of my pets?
We will attempt to contact you immediately. If we are unable to reach you, we will follow the instructions you have provided us prior to your departure, which may include administering veterinary care.
